The story reflects society's opinion of beauty. Ragini and Sadhna are forever facing being compared to one another as one is fair (Sadhna) the other dark (Ragini). The show is based on the problems that Ragini's family faces in finding her a husband and the rejections and assaults on her self esteem that Ragini faces due to the colour of her skin. Being closer than real sisters, Sadhna feels her cousin's pain and tries her best to find Ragini her Prince Charming, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness.
